The other night, I headed to the Moon Café to interview one of Perth’s up-and-coming electronic bands, Brash & Sassy. When I sat down with the girls, they were enjoying a hot meal, dressed in their trendy clothes to match their hair, makeup and brash yet sassy jewellery. Chatting with the girls, we talked about all sorts of things but their main theme and emphasis in their music is the power of women.

What began as a short trip to a craft store in 2001 soon developed into two lines of funky jewellery that are now stocked in over 60 shops across Australia and New Zealand. Since then, Johann Kim has opened two of his own unique retail stores where you’re likely to find everything from clothes and accessories to quirky stationery and even bicycles. Whether as an innovative designer or a globetrotting storeowner, there’s no doubt that Johann is a talented new addition to the growing Perth fashion scene.

Jessica Ray is no ordinary 20 year old. For 20 years she’s dedicated her life to helping and inspiring others. Her mother, Patricia Lavater, is the founder of Esther Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that runs a residential health and development program for young women aged 14 to 35 who want to get their lives back on track. While helping others is admittedly all she’s known, the bubbly brunette couldn’t be more passionate about it.

While some are quick to label Perth dull, one local artist has been busy brightening up the city with her colourful illustrations. With a successful exhibition already under her belt, Megan Isabella is quickly making a name for herself as an exciting and emerging local talent.
